Abstract

Curtis and Palmer dams are located on the Hudson River, in Cornith, in upstate New York, and are located 0.8 km apart. They are both hydropower sites.

Those dams consist in a concrete wall topped with air-filled inflatable membrane to control the upstram level.

The Palmer dam was built in 1987 and is still in service. However, a replacement is planned soon because it is reaching its life time. The electric total capacity of the hydropower station is about 48 MW.

The Curtis dam is more recent as it was built in 2003. The electric total capacity of the hydropower station is about 10.8 MW.

A major concern was the management of debris and ice. The experience of Palmer dam shows that the membrane resists those actions.
